The sun was shining as I drove to Chalford for the family photoshoot. Rain later the forecast said so I thought we’d be ok. I parked by Springfield Coach House which is a beautiful cotswold stone cottage and a holiday let but just as I arrived at the door it started to rain.
The family were keen for the photoshoot to be outdoors and as they didn’t know the area I had suggested an ideal spot along the canal by Chalford Wharf. The Stroudwater canal runs just by the Coach House so I’d chosen this location as it was only a five minute walk along the towpath. Easy for the buggy too.
We hadn’t got far along the path before the heavens opened and frankly the only person not getting wet was the baby in the buggy! Fortunately I’d checked out the area a couple of days before so I was pretty sure we could do the photoshoot sheltering under a large willow tree. Sounds unlikely I know but as you can see from this selection of pictures, it worked well.
As a family photographer I’m used to ‘thinking on my feet’. I wouldn’t have chosen to take the pictures under a tree but it worked fine and was fun. I’m sure every time the family look at the pictures they’re reminded that we got the pictures they wanted despite the terrible weather. A couple of hours later you wouldn’t have known it had rained at all!
