We are very lucky in Stroud that we still have a Register Office when so many offices have closed. The Old Victorian Schoolhouse is a popular venue particularly for smaller, intimate weddings. As the name suggest it was formerly a Victorian school which was converted in 1995. The Ceremony room holds up to 56 guests with the school playground an ideal spot for group pictures and confetti throwing. Laura and Martha’s guests were so keen on showering the couple that they had to have a second run-through!
Martha lived in Columbia before the wedding and flew over with her Mum just the week before. Laura also only came home a month before the wedding so Jan, her mum had done quite a lot of the organising.
The Ceremony was absolutely lovely especially when Martha read a poem in Spanish reading the words directly to Laura, you could feel the emotion in the room. I was standing at the front and saw the look on Martha’s Mum’s face as she listened to the words in Spanish, you could see she how proud she was of her daughter.
After the Ceremony I took the group shots that Martha & Laura had requested plus a group shot of everyone (my step ladder always comes with me for this purpose). Higgs the dog wasn’t missed out either and just before we all left I took pictures of Laura and Martha on their own. It’s nice to escape from the guests to capture those more intimate shots and the new wooden bench at the side of the schoolhouse was an ideal place.
A little later in the day we all met at The Imperial Hotel in Stroud for the wedding reception. There were lots of lovely details for me to photograph including the bouquets and the favours, the cup cakes and the vegan wedding cake made by Laura and Martha. I thought it was nice idea to give the guests a piece of the cake in a pretty basket.
After the buffet meal I took Laura and Martha into the dance room to take a few more shots of just the two of them. These shots are always the special ones that my couples love.
Laura wrote to me after they got back from their honeymoon:
Dear Maggie, Thank you so much for the beautiful wedding photos that you took for us and of the little details. We’ve just looked at them and they’re brilliant. Best wishes and thank you again.
